“It’s always just been about the music.” — Tom Doehrer

Doehrer began music lessons at 5 and in his teens received Formal Classical Training from concert pianist, David Krieder. Doehrer began College at 16 and began playing music professionally at 21. Doehrer met Mark Daffer in 1987 at Towson University and formed a classic rock band called Time Flies which became Tempus Fugit in the mid-1990s a regional Grateful Dead tribute band. Doehrer then Joined the Panic Lions as keyboardist on what was described as the best original recording of 1991 by the Mid-Atlantic Monthly. Through the Panic Lions, Doehrer was introduced to Scott Ligon and became involved with Spitting Seeds original music compilation. Doehrer started Rabbid Rabbit Records (with the assistance of Scott Ligon) as an independent record label located in Baltimore City in 1990. Rabbid Rabbit was known for the Spitting Seeds music compilation series. The Spitting Seeds compilation series was a compilation of original rock songs from local bands from a specific area. “The goal was to put a spotlight on the local, original music scene in the Mid-Atlantic region and elevate the entire music scene”. This was done in each area through the release of compilation CDs at retail, live music events, radio airplay and positive press. Spitting Seeds was featured on WHFS, DC 101 and 98 Rock in Baltimore as well as many college radio stations on the East Coast. Spitting Seeds was featured regularly on Kirk McQuens weekly local music program. At the same time, Doehrer toured the NE in Classic rock and Grateful Dead tribute band Tempus Fugit and was house keyboard player at Legendary blues club, the Full Moon Saloon in Baltimore, MD. In the late 90s Doehrer toured the NE with original progressive/alternative rock band, Nom de Plume which released many original songs including Sun Stars, Space a 4-song cassette on Rabbid Rabbit Records. Doehrer was on the Board of Directors as the event coordinator for the MMA Maryland Music Alliance (now defunct). MMA was a nonprofit organization of music industry professionals committed to raising the profile of the region's diverse music community. In the 90s Doehrer was also a Key note speaker for the CMJ College music Journal in both Philadelphia and NY.

The series was well received and had many popular bands including:

  • Lisa Cerbone
  • Kelly Bell
  • Jimmies Chicken Shack
